Decrease your Junk Mail - Opt Out of excess credit card offers!

Hopefully by now, you are aware of your ability to opt out of most telemarketing calls and spam emails. I'll let your experience tell you how effective either of those are.

If your credit is at all reasonable, you probably are tired of getting the constant credit card offers in the mail. It's a pain to have to worry about shredding them, especially if the company prints your name and offer code on a plastic card, making it harder to destroy. You may even be receiving multiple offers from a single issuer.

This obnoxious, excessive form of mail is actually quite easily dealt with. You simply need to contact the credit bureaus and tell them to remove you from the lists they share for promotional purposes.

Until recently, there were three credit bureaus to deal with. There are four now. If you prefer to mail in your request, you will need to provide:

Mail your requests to:

Equifax, Inc.

You may also want to contact this company, which is not one of the traditional credit bureaus. I couldn't find much information on getting off their list, so I have provided their customer assistance address here.

Innovis
Innovis Consumer Assistance

Columbus, OH 43216-1358

Never heard of Innovis? They're relatively new, but quite relevant. Take a look at this story on Innovis. Want more information on credit agencies you've never heard of? Try here.

You do have the option of calling to request your removal from the marketing lists, which you may find easier. Just call 1-888-5-OPTOUT. They will ask for your name, phone number and social security number. This information will only be used to stop these offers. Some feel there is a concern about this number, in terms of legitimacy, in which case I recommend you stick with writing to the individual agencies.

Just think, in a few short weeks, you can cut down on opportunities for identity theft and junk mail. Increase your peace of mind and take care of this today.
